A recent update posted by CRA to their website about Health Spending Accounts (HSA) recently:

Benefits of a Health Spending Account:
You add money to an account to be spent on health and Dental.
Business gets the tax deductions
Individual person who claims the benefits DO NOT have any tax benefits

***CRA posted that you need to be following this specific rule to make this plan feasible"

"If you are a sole proprietor with NO employees and you are adding money to a Health Spending Account and then deducting it as an expense, you will be scrutinized for this."

It's important to appreciate and beware that when CRA posts these types of announcements its an indication that they are soon going to be looking more closely at it.
