The Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) is a great example of one man's vision turning into reality. Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena established the Mahabodhi International Meditation Center in 1986 to offer both spiritual instructions as well as desperately needed humanitarian services to impoverished people in the remote land of Ladakh.

Pangong Tso or Pangong Lake is an endorheic lake spanning eastern Ladakh and West Tibet situated at an elevation of 4,225 m (13,862 ft). It is 134 km (83 mi) long and divided into five sublakes, called Pangong Tso, Tso Nyak, Rum Tso (twin lakes) and Nyak Tso. Approximately 50% of the length of the overall lake lies within Tibet, 40% in Ladakh and the rest is disputed but controlled by China. The lake is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide at its broadest point. All together it covers 604 km2.
At a remarkable 14,270 feet, and 154 km to the southeast of Leh, Pangong lake is one of the most picturesque creations of nature. And the beauty is adorned with fluffy clouds and sharp mirror images of the overlooking mountains reflecting in the brackish water.
During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water. It has a land-locked basin separated from the Indus River basin by a small elevated ridge, but is believed to have been part of the latter in prehistoric times.[4]
TThe Himalayan lake of Pangong Tso is one of Ladakh’s biggest draws. Its changing colors and breathtaking beauty against the backdrop of huge, rugged mountains make Pangong Tso one of the most picturesque lakes in India. As numbers of tourists continue to grow, it is worth reiterating that cleanliness is of utmost importance here to keep the marvelous lake as gorgeous as it is!
The lake acts as an important breeding ground for a variety of birds including a number of migratory birds. During summer, the Bar-headed goose and Brahmini ducks are commonly seen here. The region around the lake supports a number of species of wildlife including the kiang and the marmot.
