We crossed the ocean with a 6x6 in a speed boat — it barely fit.
Somehow it made it home, and that’s when the real work began.
We loaded up the boats and headed to the mainland with one mission in mind — bring home our new 6x6 to help us tackle the heavy work out here (and maybe haul a baby seat someday soon). Gord, Kelly, and myself made the run across, loaded the bike onto Gord’s boat — which was just about the same size as the machine — and somehow made it back across the ocean in one piece.
Once we hit shore, Kelly and I wasted no time testing out the new workhorse. We loaded up the tools, hooked up the little wood cart, and headed to a part of the island we haven’t spent much time on. Gord had cut an old trail there years ago, so we brought saws, bars, and picks to clear it out again. After a few hours of cutting, we stopped to make a fire, boil up a mug of tea, and cook some kippers and toast — the perfect break before the haul back.
The next morning, it was straight back into house projects. Around here, every job turns into four more. This week I was trying to finish tearing out the upstairs floor, but that meant first fixing the porch below it, rebuilding part of a wall, and finally installing two old-faced windows upstairs.
We wrapped up the week the way we like to — sitting down at the kitchen table for a Q&A and a good chat about island life, progress, and what’s coming next.
