The reason for the visit to Gdańsk was a three-week stay of MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN in the shipyard Remontowa.

1:11:56 Westerplatte (right). The fight for Westerplatte in Gdańsk was the prelude to the invasion of Poland, which is considered the beginning of the Second World War. During this attack, the German ship SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN, which was in Gdansk harbour at that time, fired salvos of its heavy ship's guns at a fortified ammunition depot on Westerplatte for about 10 minutes at 4:47 am on September 1, 1939.
