The municipality of Bakırköy is much larger than the quarter and also includes several other neighborhoods, such as Yeşilköy, Yeşilyurt, Ataköy. Bakırköy lies between the D.100 highway (locally known as E-5) and the coast of the Sea of Marmara.

Istanbul's largest mental hospital is in Bakırköy, and the parkland surrounding it is the largest green space in the district.

The centre of Bakırköy is an important commercial district. There is a huge shopping district (including a number of huge shiny shopping centres as Carousel, Capacity, Marmara Forum, Aqua Florya), a range of cinemas, bars and cafés, as well as conversion of streets to pedestrian malls.

If you’re one of those people who likes to get their shopping done in one place, then this is one of the best shopping malls to visit is Capacity Mall. You can spend a whole day walking up and down this street, getting your shopping done.

Some parts of Bakırköy are very pleasant residential areas, particularly the streets from the hospital downwards to the sea. The planned satellite town of Ataköy to the west of Bakırköy centre is very tidy indeed, and was one of Turkey's first planned residential developments. Ataköy contains much social infrastructure including the Galleria shopping center and yacht marina.

The botanical garden in Bakırköy includes many fun activities for all and for children in particular. There are several sculptures of dinosaurs, water and sandy playgrounds for children.

As well as exquisite water formations flow on a gradient slope and pour to meet in a pool of winged golden horses in the very magnificence and splendor!

Istanbul Aquarium is located in the Florya district of Istanbul's Bakırköy near the seashore and close to Ataturk International Airport.
The Aquarium of Istanbul is the largest aquatic zoo in the Middle East and has been ranked as one of Europe's largest aquarium in size, area, and the number of marine habitats it includes.
