Perth USAsia Centre CEO Gordon Flake says the United States infrastructure bill is a “needed development” for the country but will cost “real money”.

“When you add the American Rescue Plan back in January, February, $1.6 billion and $1.2 billion for the infrastructure plan,” he told Sky News Australia.

“If the Build Back Better plan passes next month as anticipated, somewhere between $1 and $2 trillion; personally, you’re talking about real money.”

Mr Flake said in the last decade, “infrastructure has deteriorated” noticeably in the United States, and there are many projects underway to repair roads, bridges, and rails.

He said it is expected the large infrastructure plan will pass, and there will be “some very tangible results” from it within the next year.

“Whether that will come soon enough to have a political impact is not yet known, but one way or another, there’s no question this is a needed development for the United States,” he said.
