Do you fart?
.
Flatulence, commonly referred to as 'farting', is caused by gas in the bowel .It is a very normal bodily function, but when it becomes excessive and smelly, it can become embarrassing. Most gas passed during flatulence goes unnoticed because there isn't a smell. It may contain odorless gases, such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane, but a small portion includes hydrogen sulfide, which causes it to smell very bad.

There are different reasons to fart:
• Small quantities of air are swallowed along with food through the mouth, that is pushed out as fart or as burp.
• When the stomach acid is neutralised by pancreatic secretions during digestion, gas is secreted as a by-product.
• The Bowel bacteria helps in digestion by fermenting some of the difficult to digest food components, producing intestinal gas as a by-product. the gas produced by bacterial fermentation can smell bad, depending on the food eaten.
• Fibers are essential for digestive health, but high fiber foods can create excessive intestinal gas too.
.
Now some of the ways to keep a check on these are:
1. By Keeping your mouth closed while eating, chewing your food well and taking smaller meals.
2. By introducing fibers slowly, allowing the bowel sufficient time to adjust.
3. By eating more easily digestible food.
4. Seek medical advice in case of excessive flatulence due to gastro intestinal issues.
5. Foods that you can avoid to decrease farting:
Dairy products if lactose intolerant, raisins and prunes, apple, apricot, peach and pear, foods high in insoluble fibre particularly seeds and husk, legumes like beans, peas, chickpeas, soybeans and nuts, vegetables like carrot, eggplant, onion, Brussels sprouts and cabbage.
