Famous Hands and Little Lambs
Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash resigned amid allegations of sexual abuse. I can't believe it! Well, I can, but how sad!!! I mean really? When initial child abuse allegations came the week before Thanksgiving, I refused to do a story. I didn't want to believe it. Elmo! Really? ELMO? He's small and fluffy and cute. Elmo stands for everything my grown up kid heart beats with. I had a tickle me Elmo when it sold online for a Bajillion dollars and 34 cents. I sing the Elmo song with my nephew over the phone. I see Elmo walking around in times square, and on lunchboxes and billboards, and schools, and...Kevin, Really? Really Really? The 5 Million dollars suit is being brought forth by , Cecil Singleton, 24, a Harlem student. Regardless of their validity, this second claim left Kevin with no choice but to resign. Not only his and Elmo's reputation were at stake, but all of Sesame Street. In a statement, Singelton talks about things that you would never in a million years associate with the red icon we know. He says, quote, "We had a sexual relationship, but we did not have intercourse until years later. Groping, masturbation, just a lot of intense kissing, touching, that kind of thing. dry humping." OMG. Singleton stepped forward after Sheldon Stephens settled with lawyers following his allegations of a long term, inappropriate, and under age relationship with Kevin Clash, the week before. Reportedly Sheldon is trying to get his lawyers to renege on his settlement, claiming if he knew other people were abused, he would not have let the matter drop. I'm sure that raising the stakes to $5 million dollars had nothing to do with it. "If you claim it, they will come." I'd like to think that somewhere in this world kids can be kids and we can find a happy place where innocence can remain in tact. Add Kevin to a list of shattered dreams and ruined role models including Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski, and Steve Burns from Blues Clues. Elmo is still pure, right? Elmo has no plans to move off The Street, however. Sesame Street claims that Elmo is bigger than any one man, and will continue to be a source of inspiration and hope for everyone that drops by.
