Here is my review and unboxing video of the Hornby R9283 Thomas & Friends Train Set in OO gauge and this is the first time I have covered a Thomas train set in a review video. It is always great to try new things and the reason I am starting to collecting these type of model trains is because the first reason is that 2018 is going to be the final year that these train sets and the Thomas and friends range of model trains to be produced by Hornby. So I am not missing out and I am pleased I got this train set as its a matter of "now" or "never" as they say.

This is a basic starter train set from Hornby that includes a simple oval of track with a train controller to get the model train going. The train set includes Thomas himself as well as Annie and Clarabel that Thomas hauled in the television program that made its debut back in 1984. There is a free DVD that came with the train set that is sealed although my copy of the DVD is loose inside the case as it must of come off the spindle at some point.

The model in this newer Hornby Thomas and Friends train set has the correct shade of blue as this train set was released in 2016 where as the older models of the train charactars in the series that Hornby first released in the 1980's and the 1990's had a darker shade of blue in terms of Thomas and Gordon. I have only this train set from the Thomas And Friends series of Hornby models for the time being but watch this space as I do plan to get more of them for my model train collection.

Performance is good as Thomas responds well to the controller but I only did a wee test run before making this video to ensure that everything was working as it should do. As this is a brand new model train, I will give it a run-in session before I do another video featuring this Thomas model in that video.

Overall this is a nice compact model train set for those that like Thomas and would make a great present for someone. Factoring in that 2018 is the final year for getting the Hornby Thomas and Friends range. I would recommend getting this model train set sooner than later as in the future. The range of these model trains from Hornby will only be available secondhand and I can imagine that the prices could increase dramatically in years to come.
