The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SC, ST, and OBC organisations has announced that it will hold a crucial press conference on 15th May 2025 at 11:30 AM in the premises of Gurudwara Shri Guru Ravi Dass Ji Maharaj, Head Office, Krishna Nagar, Jammu. This press conference is being convened in response to derogatory remarks allegedly made by Sh. Vijay Shah, a minister in the Madhya Pradesh Government, which have sparked deep resentment and outrage among members of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes across the country.
In a strongly worded statement ahead of the event, senior members of the Committee—including Sham Lal Basson, Mohinder Bhagat, Prof. Kali Dass, and Prof. C. L. Shivgora—condemned the minister’s comments, terming them as highly objectionable, casteist, and an insult to the legacy and dignity of the marginalized communities. They asserted that such remarks are not only unacceptable but also reflect a dangerous mindset that continues to demean and dehumanize historically oppressed groups despite decades of struggle for social justice and equality.
The JAC leaders emphasized that this press conference is not just a response to one isolated incident, but a symbolic assertion of the community’s collective dignity and demand for accountability. They said that they will highlight how such irresponsible statements by people in positions of power embolden social discrimination, and why immediate legal and political action must be taken to prevent recurrence. They will also demand a public apology from the concerned minister, a statement from the Madhya Pradesh Government, and the intervention of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
Additionally, the press conference will serve as a platform to mobilize public opinion and announce a broader campaign for justice, aimed at sensitizing society and pressuring governments to take strong action against those who engage in hate speech or caste-based slander. The JAC leaders have invited media houses, civil society organizations, and community members to attend the press briefing and stand in solidarity against the continuing insult to the values of equality, fraternity, and constitutional morality.
They concluded that the time has come for zero tolerance towards any form of casteist provocation, and reiterated their commitment to fight back with peaceful democratic means until justice is delivered and dignity restored.
