Описание к видео Supporting Local Ecology Native Plants for Small Home Gardens Pilot Demonstration Projects 10 9

Presented by Kate Brandes on 10-9-18

Native plants are most often viewed by the public as ‘wild’ spaces such as meadows or as highly managed landscapes in large botanical gardens. There are few examples or resources on how to incorporate native plants into the landscape for residents with small yards in a way that fits the tidy yard look that most people are comfortable with and can afford.

This presentation includes resources for residents developed over a five-year program that make it easier for residents to include natives in their home landscapes. Kate will present an array of simple landscape design templates as well as resources on common weeds and invasive plants that residents may encounter in the home garden.

Kate Brandes is manager of the Landscaping for Communities and Wildlife Program at Lehigh Gap Nature Center in Slatington, Pennsylvania. She’s worked as a geologist and environmental scientist for more than twenty years. She’s also been a master gardener through the Penn State Extension Program for more than 15 years and she’s a member of the Ecological Landscape Alliance.

This presentation is part of the "Focus on Sustainability" webinar series prepared for landscape professionals and the public. The series is being presented through collaboration of: The Ecological Landscape Alliance (ELA) The Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council (CCLC) The Sustainability Committee of the Illinois Landscape and Contractors Association (ILCA) The Kansas City Native Plant Initiative (KCNP) And ReScape California Known regionally for their quality education programs, these organizations are working cooperatively to share knowledge with landscape professionals and the public from around the country and the globe to promote sustainable landscape practices.
