Get ready for the wildest fantasy adventure of 2025! From writer/director Steven Kostanski (Psycho Goreman), Deathstalker is a scrappy, low-budget, action-heavy sword-and-sorcery epic rebooting the 1983 cult classic.

Plot Summary:

In the Kingdom of Abraxeon, the land is under siege by the Dreadites, heralds of the long-dead sorcerer Nekromemnon. Deathstalker (Daniel Bernhardt) is a powerful swordsman—older, wearier, and battle-hardened—who recovers a cursed golden amulet from a corpse-strewn battlefield. Marked by dark magic, he becomes hunted by monstrous assassins.

To survive, he must break the curse and confront the rising evil. He teams up with the imprisoned wizard Doodad (voiced by Patton Oswalt) and the thief Brisbayne (Christina Orjalo). Doodad eventually deciphers the Talon’s prophecy, revealing that only a warrior who has “walked between the worlds of life and death” can wield the four-bladed sword, the Light of Talon, to extinguish the “four hearts of evil” and defeat Nekromemnon.

Aesthetic & Production:
Kostanski leans heavily on practical effects, featuring creatures made with physical suits, latex, and foam. The film embraces a tongue-in-cheek homage tone—serious in story but aware of its fantasy roots—without becoming full parody. Departing from the original franchise’s exploitation style, this reboot avoids misogynistic themes and contains no nudity, focusing instead on gory, creature-driven action.

Music executive producer Slash teams up with composer Bear McCreary to create a new song that repurposes the iconic Deathstalker 2 theme.

Deathstalker hits U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025.
