Financial independence and financial freedom should not be a function of your marital status or your living situation. Many women could be happily settled, married or unmarried, but that doesn’t always mean they have financial freedom.

It can help you meet the family’s financial goals
In case of emergencies, when one partner loses a job, there is some support & backup
A role model for the children, especially the younger females in the family -

PERSONAL :
Gives you freedom, to choose what you want to do with your money
Not depending on your partner boosts your self-worth + self- esteem
Doesn’t skew the power balance in the relationship
If you are in an abusive or unhealthy dynamic, it gives you the option to remove yourself from the situation and ensure your safety.


➭ My tips for financial planning and achieving your goals

1. Set a 20% limit to your spending

2. Plan your finances for life : think about having an emergency fund, a retirement plan, a dream-savings plan. Don’t depend on your dad or your husband or your brother or your child to be supporting you. Think long-term.

3. Rent and utilities : 60% of what you earn. This still allows you to have 20% discretionary income for eating out, traveling, personal purchases and 20% saving.

4. Expense tracking : sit down for 20-30 minutes every weekend, and have a look at your bank account, your cards, you e-wallets and track your expenses. Just this mindfulness will help you in changing your spending habits.

5. Periods of frugal spending : This is a great short-term solution to meet your long-term goals.
