with so much unnecessary toxicity that regularly occurs among those within this community, I'd like to offer my personal advice regarding self-restraint and the treatment of others.
I hope that this will help put into perspective the foolishness of toxic behavior.

1.
I recommend to reduce your ego in relation to the game and minimize care about other people's view of your reputational performance within the game.
none of it matters, does anyone even truly care if you lose? and if someone actually does waste their time caring, why should it bother you?
your behavior and how you treat others should be placed with much greater importance than someone's view of your skill in a video game. insulting others for their failures or even insulting others to cope with your own failures is simply foolishness. it demonstrates a disconnect with reality if you decide to take your anger out on other people for your failures rather than to be concerned with your own skillset, which is up to you to improve.

even if you’re magnitudes worse or better than another player, it is possible to be aware of this fact without taking to personal attacks. I do understand that most of you started playing for fun, but reacting with and enabling toxicity is the sort of behavior which can ruin a game for a community and make you forget why you ever started.

2.
insulting other players and being toxic burns bridges in more ways than are directly visible. friends of that player, or even bystanders will observe your behavior and form assumptions concerning your competence and reliability, or lack thereof. you will miss out on opportunities that could have been, simply because you chose to be cruel to others with no benefit other than to partake in a regrettable moment of self-indulgence

3.
you never know what someone is going through personally, nor what is truly going on for that person behind the screen. to be cruel to someone under any circumstance, even if they were cruel to you first, when you can just be kind or even say nothing at all perpetuates a cycle of negativity

the mindset "I'm only toxic to people who deserve it" is also completely nonsensical. in behaving this way, not only does it shape you to become more toxic overall, but onlookers will see two degenerates taking the game way too seriously. it doesn’t make it okay even if the other player is toxic.

if someone is toxic to you, simply be the better person instead of following them down to their level. they may even be going through a hard time themself, to which it’s always nice to remind them they are cared for. bad people don’t always need to be treated badly and doing so barely ever encourages improvement in the other

so please - stop insulting people, quit making excuses for all your failures, and don't harass anyone (regardless of their behavior towards you).

we’re all people and we don’t need to make it harder for each other to get through each day
your kindness can go a long way, and I am hoping more people will realize that.
