My first time paddling Another Dam Race! Here's a recap of the morning of the race and how I did.

I've dabbled in SUP racing off and on for the last few seasons. All of it has been in small, local races to me. When I got the opportunity to test my mettle at a large regional race I was all over it.

I did a few practice runs at my local lake, but nothing there could prepare me for a mass start among over 400 other paddlers.

After a 9 hour drive, overnight in a hotel, and an early morning of running around the venue looking for registration and getting ready, it was finally time to put my paddle in the water. The start was tumultuous with choppy conditions, paddlers all over the place, and keeping my focus on staying upright and moving forward.

With adrenaline getting the best of me early on in the race, I found myself running out of steam at the last mile. A boat wake and a fall into the water got me re-energized and I left it all on the water as I sprinted to the finish.

This was an absolute blast of an event and I can't wait to go back next year. Speaking of next year, I'll be training more and getting out to as many of these types of races as I can, so stay tuned for more Paddleboard racing recaps!
