The adventures of Irish-Canadian artist Paul Kane, who travelled across Canada and back with the Hudson's Bay Company brigade trail in the mid-1840s, painting the characters and scenes he encountered along the way.

In Part 7, Paul Kane crosses the turbulent Salish Sea in an Indian war canoe and disembarks on Vancouver Island. There, he witnesses a shamanic healing ceremony, meets the son of the only survivor of the ill-fated 'Tonquin', and a traditional Nisqually legend from the locals.
