LACO SummerFest S3:E4 Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds in E-Flat major

The Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds in E-Flat major, while attributed to Mozart, has a strange history and it has never truly been confirmed to be the lost Concertante that Mozart wrote for a similar instrumentation in 1778. Some music researchers consider this version to be “corrupted” and some consider it to be genuine. Regardless, this version of the Concertante retains Mozart’s affection for wind instruments, as heard in the oboe’s expressive voice, the clarinet’s wide range, the horn’s journey into its upper octave, and the bassoon’s swooning bass lines.
LACO performed this piece January 29, 2022, at the Ambassador Auditorium with Music Director Jaime Martín, oboist Claire Brazeau, clarinetist Joshua Ranz, horn player Michael Thorton, and bassoonist Kenneth Munday.
