From humble beginnings to global prominence, Professor Musa Manzi's remarkable journey epitomises resilience and determination.
At the age of just 15, he embarked on a 500-kilometre journey with an R100 loan from his mother to travel to Wits University. He arrived at Wits without knowledge that he had to apply first before being enrolled. He was helped by a stranger who took pity on him in this predicament and he went on to receive distinctions for his Matric subjects, including 100% for maths and 98% for physics.
This persuaded the university to register him for a BSc in maths and physics.
He endured many challenges, such as being subjected to sleeping at the school library, among others.
Today, he stands as a beacon of success, serving as the Director of the Seismic Research Centre at Wits University and making significant strides in the field of geophysics on the global stage.
We are now joined by Professor Musa Manzi.
