Bo Burnham is one of the greatest artists working today. He's someone who understands the twisted digital landscape of our world and offers an authentic and relatable voice an entire generation has resonated with. Bo Burnham's always been a creative who's skillset and ambition far exceeds the simplistic box many have tried to place him in. Not only is he a brilliant stand up comedian, but a talented musician, writer, director, editor, cinematographer, actor, and...the list goes on. Bo Burnham is nothing short of inspiring. During the tour for Bo Burnham's Make Happy, he began having panic attacks on stage which would lead to a temporary hiatus from comedy resulting in his directorial debut, Eighth Grade and his duplicitous turn in Promising Young Woman. However, as fate would have it, Bo planned to return to comedy in 2020 with his Netflix comedy special Inside and due to global events, Inside Bo Burnham would have to take a different turn. Inside was recorded in Burnham's home during the lockdown without a crew or audience, it was released on Netflix on May 30, 2021. It features a variety of existential songs and sketches about his day-to-day life indoors; he depicts his deteriorating mental health and explores themes of performativity and his relationship to his audience. Bo Burnham Inside is GREAT. Bo Burnham's Inside is a masterpiece and essential viewing for any aspiring or working artist and offers an intimate look into fluctuating creative process we all endure. Inside is a masterpiece, obviously, making for some of the best performance art ever put to screen, but Bo Burnham's Inside is inspiring.
