US federal authorities have unearthed a secret tunnel stretching from a house in Mexico to an abandoned KFC restaurant in the state of Arizona. Authorities have indicated that the tunnel was used to smuggle drugs. The building’s owner, Jesus Ivan Lopez Garcia, was arrested recently after police found 168 kilograms of drugs while searching his pickup truck during a traffic stop.

While something you would expect to find in a Hollywood movie, this shows how the border wall is more a Public Works project than actual border security. To have true border security requires true enforcement of USA law; and while politically inconvenient to some, the derailment of this topic to confuse “illegal immigration” and the millions of legal immigrants the USA welcomes every year muddies the waters.

Of course the same is true the other way how the WAR ON DRUGS confuses the issue with “pain management”. In both directions, it is about getting you emotional rather than thinking about the actual problems and the reality and complexity of solving them.
