Before you even pick up the guitar, sit down and listen to what you are trying to learn and get to know it as much as possible. Always listen to the guitar solo you are trying to learn. Get familiar with the techniques used in the solo.
When learning a new song or trying to play a solo guitar, first you should listen to the guitar solo you are trying to learn. Break the solo down into smaller sections and work on each section separately at a slow and comfortable tempo. Start combining the sections together
and then play the entire solo at a slow tempo. Start to work on playing the solo up to speed. Remember, is generally a good idea to practice it very slowly at first. Practicing at different tempos is key to mastering the techniques needed to play the solo or song. This can get pretty boring if you're practicing alone with a metronome.
