When I planned my move to Italy I tried to estimate the cost of living in Turin, but no one can predict all of the hidden expenses when moving abroad. I just got an outrageous heat bill in my new apartment, which was especially shocking because I've barely used the heat.

Keeping the heat on as much as I want to would drain my bank account, so I need to find some other solutions to conserve energy without freezing in my drafty (yet spacious) apartment. Maybe this video will help others who are trying to minimize their heat bill in an older Italian building like mine.

The cost of utilities, especially heat, is much higher in Italy than the US, and it's not easy to estimate before you move countries. It's just one more thing to think about if you're planning a move abroad, especially if you dream of living in Italy. For those who only visit Italy in the warmer months, just be aware--it does get cold in the winter, especially up north!
