Max Chilton crash during first F1 testing

British rookie driver Max Chilton crashed into the barriers during Formula One Winter testing on Tuesday, just hours after the launch of the F1 Marussia MR02 car in Jerez, Spain.

It's sunny, he's in Jerez and Max Chilton is enjoying his first winter testing experience for Marussia.

Oh, that's not supposed to happen.

Only hours after the MR02 car was unveiled in Spain and only minutes into his first drive as Formula One's new rookie driver, Chilton had a severe reality check.

Understandably, the 21-year-old wasn't in the most talkative of moods.

Q: "What happened there then?"
"I am not quite sure. Something just gave way so we'll have to see."
"It's not kind of the ideal start really (is it)?"
"The car was going well until that point, so it's something..... we'll just have to see what the problem is."
"So, how has your first day been? How was it this morning?"
"Oh, it was cool. Thanks."

A frustrating start for Chilton. who will become the fourth Brit on the grid this season.

And an expensive start for Russian team Marussia, who will have to work hard to correct the car failure that caused the crash.

Marussia are yet to announce who will partner Chilton in 2013 but GP2 Series runner-up Luiz Razia remains the favourite to be given the seat.
