Founded in 1899 by Harry Fuld and Karl Lehnar, Deutsche Privat Telephone Gesellschaft H, was expropriated from the widow of Harry Fuld by the Third Reich and renamed Telefonbau und Normalzeit AG, (Telephone Construction and Standard Time Company), (T&N) in 1934. Following this one among very many indefensible events at the time, now well known to history, the Company continued to produce telephones and private automatic exchanges as well as timekeeping equipment.

Probably the most famous T&N product is the Bauhaus Telephone made in the late 1920s and 1930s. By the 1950s and throughout the 1960s T&N were exporting well-built telephones for use on private systems in the United Kingdom. The dial label on this set however suggests that it was used in Germany.

This E3 with its light green thermoplastic case and handset with ivory caps was, according to stamps on the base, built in 1962, presumably as an E2 and converted to, or completed as, an E3 in 1965.
