For nearly 1,000 years, Aristotle's view of a stationary Earth at the center of a revolving universe dominated natural philosophy.

In 1515, a Polish priest named Nicolaus Copernicus proposed that the Earth was a planet like Venus or Saturn, and that all planets circled the Sun. After that, evidence for a heliocentric solar system gradually mounted.

2nd- The area of space swept out by a planet in a given time is constant.

3rd- The period T of a planet relates to R, its semi-major axis, so that T2/R3 is a constant throughout the entire solar system.
