On 23 January 2022, Spink had the privilege to auction the remarkable Hemyock Gold Penny of King Henry III, authorised on 16 August 1257. Weighing 2.951g [45.54grns], Michael Leigh-Mallory's find was the most significant contribution to English Numismatics since the discovery of the Edward III Double-Leopard in 2006, and the first new coin to surface of its type since 1762. Recorded with the British Museum (PAS: DEV-C34DA6), it would sell for a world record price of £648,000 and will forever stand as one of the greatest and most important metal detecting discoveries of all time.
