Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby explains the decision to drop charges against Adnan Syed

Prosecutors have dropped the murder charges against Adnan Syed whose case attracted global attention after the release of the true-crime podcast "Serial."

The podcast raised questions about Syed's original trial, leading to years of legal wrangling. Syed's attorneys said new DNA tests excluded him from the DNA recovered from the evidence.

“Finally, Adnan Syed is able to live as a free man. The DNA results confirmed what we have already known and what underlies all of the current proceedings: that Adnan is innocent and lost 23 years of his life serving time for a crime he did not commit,” said Erica Suter, Syed’s attorney and an assistant public defender.
