Assassin's Creed is a historical action-adventure video game series and multimedia franchise published by Ubisoft and primarily developed by its Montreal studio using the Anvil game engine and its more advanced versions. The series was created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May. It centers on a fictional, centuries-long conflict between two factions: the Assassins, who fight for peace and individual freedom, and the Templars, who seek peace through control and order. Blending elements of historical fiction, science fiction, and real events, the games often feature imagined characters interacting with real historical figures and settings. Typically, players assume the role of a historical Assassin while also engaging with a modern-day narrative involving the ongoing Assassin-Templar conflict. Seen as a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed was influenced by the novel Alamut by Slovenian author Vladimir Bartol, which was inspired by the medieval Persian Hashashin sect.
