KEMBO travels illegally from Congo to Turkey in the hopes of reaching Greece to begin a new life. He keeps to himself and rarely engages with people, mostly because of distrust and fear. We can see from his demure that he has seen horrific things and carries the trauma of loss as well as PTSD. He dreams of getting away from violence and heartache and find new peace- ful surroundings and try to make a better life for himself. He forms a friendship with Eren who reminds him that humanity can be wholesome and together they form a bond and hope.

EREN along with his mother Nermin are making the treacherous journey in order to be reunited with his father in France. Eren is put into situations no child should experience and yet his upbeat persona amongst such hardship is endearing as well as heartbreak- ing. Like Yaren it is the innocent that get caught up in conflict and often they don’t have the experience to understand their situation. Eren could be any one of our children and is the face of the shame we should all feel for subjecting children to these situations and then turning a blind eye.
