According to the Greek historian Herodotus, it took 10 years of preparation and 20 years of construction to stack the estimated 2,300,000 limestone and granite blocks into its final form. If we believe Herodotus, that means one stone would have to be put in place every five minutes. Even today, with our modern technology, it would be difficult to pull off what the Egyptians did.

But why were the pyramids really built? And how were they built? There is still a ton of speculation, still many questions that haven’t been answered. Explanations have been given but never proven.
