In the std::execution model, some senders are single-shot, others multishot. But even multishot senders can be rvalue-connected which unlocks optimizations such as moving from internal state.

This lightning talk walks through a case where that optimization seemed valid: Moving from the elements of an owned container. But generic code doesn’t traffic in containers, it traffics in ranges. And the subtleties of range category, view semantics, and ownership guarantees made the optimization invalid, unprovable, or just bizarrely inconsistent.

We’ll look at how the idea formed, why it made sense, and exactly where it fell apart.
