Chitralekha is persistent in her refusal to accept Maartand as her husband, even when her parents insist on it. As she has already chosen Vikramaditya in the swayamvar, she tells them it is not solely her decision anymore. She takes Vikramaditya to show him the various paintings she has done over the years of her soulmate and he is stunned to see a resemblance with himself. Meanwhile, Maartand asks her father to prepare for their wedding. Chitralekha begs them to relent but to no avail. However, Vikramaditya goes back on his promise to Maartand and vows to make Chitralekha his own.

Betaal Aur Sinhasan Battisi is the story of a legendary throne- Sinhasan Battisi, crafted by the gods for ‘Sarv-gun-sampann’ Raja Vikramaditya, in celebration of his 32 virtues. Betaal – an immortal ghost is the self-appointed protector of this throne, out of his adoration and loyalty towards his best friend, King Vikramaditya, who ruled Ujjain years ago. This throne embodies mystical powers that enable its bearer to rule with a sense of justice and being endowed with other god like abilities.
Centuries later, a just and virtuous king ‘Raja Bhoj’ is presented with the rare opportunity to chance upon the magical world where the throne is hidden. With good intent at heart, he moves towards it only for one of the 32 engraved Putlees (guardian angels of the throne) to emerge, stop him and his virtues to test. Betaal plays an important role in the story as a trickster who uses wit and harmless deceit to ensure that the Sinhasan is not given to anyone by Mahamaya and the Putlees. He is foolishly passionate about protecting the Sinhasan.
