Liquidity means pending orders in the market (stop-losses, buy stops, sell stops).
Smart Money (banks & institutions) needs liquidity to enter large positions, so price is engineered to seek these orders.

💡 Price doesn’t move randomly — it moves from liquidity to liquidity.
Buy-Side Liquidity (BSL)
Buy-Side Liquidity = Buy Stops
Found above highs, such as:
Equal highs
Previous day / week highs
Range highs
Trendline highs

Purpose:
Smart Money pushes price up to trigger buy stops
→ then sells into those buys.
📌 Often followed by bearish reversals.

Sell-Side Liquidity (SSL)
Sell-Side Liquidity = Sell Stops
Found below lows, such as:
Equal lows
Previous day / week lows
Range lows
Trendline lows
Purpose:
Smart Money drives price down to hit sell stops
→ then buys into those sells.
📌 Often followed by bullish reversals.

Liquidity Pool
A liquidity pool is an area where many stops are resting together.
Common liquidity pools:
Equal highs / equal lows
Asian session high & low
Previous day high (PDH) / low (PDL)
Previous week high (PWH) / low (PWL)
🧠 The more obvious the level, the more liquidity it contains.

Liquidity Grab (Stop Hunt)
A liquidity grab happens when price:
Sweeps a liquidity pool
Quickly reverses

Liquidity Pool
A liquidity pool is a concentrated area containing a large number of resting orders (stops + pending entries).
Common high-probability pools include:

Equal highs / equal lows
Asian session high & low
Previous day high/low (PDH/PDL)
Previous week high/low (PWH/PWL)
Obvious swing points or breakout levels


Sweeps through a liquidity pool (wicking beyond a high/low)
Quickly reverses direction

Typical characteristics:

Long wicks / fake breakouts
Rapid reversal candle
Often happens during high-impact sessions (London open, New York open / "kill zones")
Frequently followed by a Market Structure Shift (MSS), displacement, or imbalance (e.g., FVG or Order Block)

This is classic manipulation — not genuine continuation.
Liquidity Run
A liquidity run is an aggressive, directional move that:


Key difference:

Grab → sweep + reversal
Run → sweep + continuation

Liquidity runs typically follow periods of accumulation or manipulation.
How ICT/SMC Traders Use Liquidity

Mark potential BSL and SSL zones on the chart.
Determine premium (above equilibrium) vs discount (below equilibrium) areas.
Wait for a liquidity sweep to occur.
Look for confirmation:
Market Structure Shift (MSS / BOS / CHOCH)
Displacement (strong momentum)
Fair Value Gap (FVG), Order Block, or Breaker

Enter in alignment with the higher-timeframe daily bias.
Target the opposite liquidity side (e.g., after sweeping SSL → target BSL for longs).
