California Grasslands: Part 1 // Elk and Pronghorn

Описание к видео California Grasslands: Part 1 // Elk and Pronghorn

In this episode, join Kyle and Joe as they explore the Carrizo Plain National Monument and search for remnant California grassland animals such as pronghorn and Tule Elk.

California has lost almost 99% of its native grassland habitat. California’s Central Valley grasslands and wetlands once beheld a wildlife spectacle rivaling the Masai Mara or Serengeti of Africa. There is one remaining grassland where such a display can still be found: The Carrizo Plain National monument, jointly managed by The Nature Conservancy, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, and other organizations.

The Carrizo Plain stretches for 250,000 acres along the base of the Temblor Mountains, 60 miles east of San Luis Obispo. Its vast grasslands sustain 15 of California’s threatened and endangered plants and animals and provide a unique opportunity to experience California grasslands as they once were.
