Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd (GIPCL) received state approval on a “nomination basis” under the Electricity Act, 2003 to establish a lignite-based power project of about 700–750 MW at Valia, leveraging its existing mining and SLPP ecosystem in South Gujarat. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited’s Board has also granted in-principle approval to procure power for 25 years, with finalization contingent on Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission approval in line with statutory procurement norms.
