The removal of the Thomas Jefferson statue in New York City is about “hatred of white Americans” rather than slavery, according to documentary filmmaker Ami Horowitz.

“I did a hidden camera video in the city of New York where I asked people to take down the statue of George Washington and they all agreed to it,” Mr Horowitz said.

“And then I said, ‘well is it because he’s a slave owner?’ And they go yes.

“And I said well here’s another petition I have to take down a statue of Muhammed, because he was also a slave owner, and they said oh no we don’t want to do that.”
