‘Shraddha’ is another Sanskrit word which is commonly translated to English as ‘Faith’ by many people including even some of the Hindu gurus. Faith is described as confidence or trust that someone has in another person or a thing. Faith could be directed towards an airline which is known for its punctuality or a person whom we consider to be honourable. Shraddha, in its original and primary sense, denotes feelings of reverence directed towards the divine or someone superior to us and worthy of worship. This video explains the profound concept of ‘shraddha’ and helps us understand why it is not appropriate to replace it by ‘faith’ in English.
