In Pune’s Model Colony, a major controversy has erupted involving the Seth Hirachand Nemchand Smarak Trust’s property sale to a private developer, estimated at around ₹230–311 crore. Allegations surfaced that a 65-year-old Jain temple on the site was omitted from the sale application, prompting outrage among community members and political leaders. Maharashtra Charity Commissioner Amogh Kaloti intervened, ordering a complete halt on the property sale, construction, or transfer pending inquiry.
Following this, several media channels and politicians, including MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, accused Kaloti and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis of wrongdoing. In response, the Mumbai Charity Advocate Bar Association and the Association of Advocates Practicing in Charity Organizations held a joint press conference defending Kaloti. They condemned personal attacks on him, calling the allegations baseless and politically motivated.
The associations clarified that the property’s registration lies under Mumbai jurisdiction and that the sale permission was granted after due judicial process. Advocates further stated that misleading media reports are part of a conspiracy to malign officials for political gain. The case is currently pending in the High Court, and the associations urged media houses to refrain from spreading false information until the court’s verdict. Around 50 advocates jointly expressed support for Amogh Kaloti, emphasizing that truth will prevail through legal process.
