Скачать или смотреть ZiPS projections aren't buying the SF Giants—again

On today's Locked On Giants podcast, host Ben Kaspick discusses the San Francisco Giants' 2022 ZiPS projections. Last season, the Giants outperformed their ZiPS projections more than any team had ever before. In Ben's opinion, the projection failed to take into account the influence of the Giants' new hitting coaches, Donnie Ecker, Justin Viele, and Dustin Lind, who demonstrated an ability to make players better in the short 2020 season.

This year, the projections still aren't fully buying the Giants' collective breakout. Brandon Crawford is projected to be good, but not great, and roughly league average offensively. Buster Posey, had he still been playing, would similarly be projected to be more average than great. Brandon Belt is projected to be an above-average hitter, but nothing like the monster he was in 2020 and 2021 when on the field. Ben also explores the projections for the likes of Joey Bart, LaMonte Wade Jr., Mike Yastrzemski, and Kris Bryant.

Lastly, he looks at some of the Giants' top pitchers. Logan Webb has an excellent projection, and it seems that the computers agree that Webb has arrived as a front-line starter. Alex Wood, Alex Cobb, and Anthony DeSclafani are projected to be solid second-tier starters behind an ace-like Webb, but the Giants are still missing at least one more trusted arm, it would seem.
