Pakistan is a country with agriculture as backbone of its economy. And agriculture is the biggest industry of Pakistan. Nature has blessed Pakistan with an ideal climate for growing tomatoes. Most of the farmers sell their freshly produced tomatoes in raw form at lesser price. This is just because of the reason that the majority of farmers are uneducated and unaware about the value-addition technology to minimally process their produce and sell on better price after increasing the value of their commodity. Moreover, around 30% of produce is wasted due to negligence and lack of knowledge of farmers to preserve it which could convert tomatoes into non-perishable value added dehydrated products. The demand of processed food is increasing day by day in Pakistan. Pakistan being an agricultural country has huge potential to capitalize on this growing demand of value added dried tomato products in local market.
The objective of this video is to support tomato farmers and producers in tomato value-addition to dehydrate tomato with minimum processing at field level. The purpose of this guide is to facilitate farmers and growers in tomato pulp production field by providing them a general understanding of the setup.
Pakistan especially Punjab province produces huge quantity of tomatoes and of superior quality in the world and their flavor, aroma and taste is unique. However, we are nowhere in the export of dehydrated tomatoes that has huge exporting potentials and local market demand as well.
