After the team competed hard in 2023, they came up short of
expectations with an overall record of 3-1-8. Now, with a roster
poised for greatness, the team is looking to flip the script and
thrive in the coming season. Akron City FC Head Coach Andy
Hoggarth has pieced together a hand-picked roster, with high
hopes that they can rewrite the storyline in 2024.
“There were a few positives we can take from last season
with the development of the team, but at the end of the day our
priority is to put a team on the field that has the potential to win
every game,” said Hoggarth. “Obviously one of our basic issues
last season was the lack of goals we scored. As a staff we have
worked hard in the building of the roster and feel that we have
added some good quality attacking players to add some more
goals to the team.”
The organization went out in the offseason to build a team that
is both ready to compete and succeed on the field, but also mesh
well in the locker room. With that, Coach Hoggarth and ACFC

Owner Nick Turchan have brought in talented youngsters along-
side aged veterans.

With a focus on finding success, the team has secured forward
Sam Sarver from Indiana University will drastically help the
team this season. With many accolades under his name, the one
that stands out the most is “2023 Big Ten Champion” where his
energy up top catipulted the Hoosiers to a title.
In the team’s most recent away streak, Sarver was on fire for
ACFC, leading them to multiple wins against Niagara 1812 and
Michigan Rangers FC. While he did not find the back of the net,
he helped to facilitate the offense. Against Northern Indiana FC
in the USASA Amateurs Cup, he found the back of the net twice
for two goals. His play throughout the month led to him being
nominated for NPSL Player of the Month honors.
“I think it’s been the entire team defending as a unit and
committing to the job in hand. We will continue working on our
defensive shape and hope to continue being a team that defends
well,” said Coach Hoggarth. “I think everyone from one to eleven
responded. Last week we said the work rate was there but we
couldn’t take our chances. I think we upped the work rate and had
great chances.”
