How to dye yarn with Marigold

Описание к видео How to dye yarn with Marigold

Join me as I dye yarn with Marigold. I will show you how different fibres have an impact on the final colour of the yarn. We will also determine whether we need to use a mordant to bind colour to the yarn.

What you will need

A cooking pot (specific for natural dyeing)
Marigolds: you can use fresh, dyed or frozen
Stir stick
water
Alum
gloves
scale
measuring spoon
sifter/cheesecloth

Instructions:

Weigh marigolds. weight of the marigolds = weight of fibre (100g fibre requires 100g of marigolds).

For dried flowers, soak overnight

Place marigolds in pot and fill pot with water ( 2 inches below top) and simmer for 2 hours.
Let cool down for an hour
Remove Marigolds from the dye-pot
Add washed, wet, pre-mordant yarn (I used Alum to pre-mordant the yarn)
Let simmer for two hours (do not boil)

Remove yarn from dye-pot
wash in room temperature water until the colour stops coming out in the wash.

Dry yarn

Enjoy
