Green Bee-eater, Merops orientalis, is a common sight when birding in Thailand and is a bird which is common in dry country through much of Asia. This Green Bee-eater preening is one of a pair of these birds that I watched after they had been feeding in the morning and then sat resting in the shade as the day got hotter. Green Bee-eater is also known as Little Green Bee-eater, Little Bee-eater, Asian Green Bee-eater, นกจาบคาเล็ก in Thai and पतरिंगा in Hindi. Green Bee-eaters nest in holes in sandy and muddy banks and even small mounds of earth in fields. I had been trying to photograph these Green Bee-eaters as they caught dragonflies but they were too quick for me and the sun was too intense so I was lucky that they took a rest in the shade of a tree.
