Big Relief for Job Seekers: SED Plans Fresh Teacher Appointments in J&K

The School Education Department of Jammu & Kashmir has brought great news for thousands of unemployed youth. The department is planning to de-freeze 50% of General Line Teacher (GLT) posts, paving the way for fresh recruitment after almost a decade.

In 2018, around 39,461 SSA teachers were absorbed as Grade-II and Grade-III teachers, and thousands of GLT posts were frozen to adjust them. Due to this, no new recruitment was done in the education department for years, leaving many young aspirants disheartened.

Now, under the chairmanship of Education Minister Sakina Itoo, the department has proposed to de-freeze these posts and extend their validity till 2034, so that recruitment can be done through JKSSB. This will not only improve the quality of education in government schools, which are facing acute teacher shortage, but also open job opportunities for educated youth of the Union Territory.

Currently, Jammu & Kashmir has over 6,000 single teacher schools and nearly 800-900 schools without any teacher, directly affecting the education of children.
