The Historical Significance of the Catacombs of Priscilla
Known as the "Queen of the Catacombs," this extensive network of underground tunnels dates back to the late 2nd century AD and was used for Christian burials until the 4th century. The catacombs are named after a noblewoman, Priscilla, who is believed to have donated the land for the Christian community. Spanning over 13 kilometers of passages, they house the tombs of thousands of early Christians, including several popes and martyrs.
