Tekes County, a county under the jurisdiction of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in the eastern part of the Tekes River valley in the upper reaches of the Ili River. The county is 116 kilometers from Yining City and 815 kilometers from Urumqi. East, north and Gongliu County adjacent, east and Jing County as neighbors, west and Zhaosu County border, south with Baicheng County adjacent, north and Chabchal County border. The total area of the county is 8,352 square kilometers.
The topography of the county is high from north to south and low from east to west, with the South Road Tianshan in the south and the Middle Road Tianshan in the north, and the middle is the flat land of the Teix River valley, which slopes from west to east. Turks River crosses the whole territory from west to east. It is rich in mineral resources. As of June 2020, Turks County has 5 towns, 3 townships, 6 farmlands and 1 bee farm. In 2019, the registered population of Tekes County was 166,337, a decrease of 2,672 from the end of the previous year. Among them, the urban population was 56,191 and the rural population was 11,146. The population of ethnic minorities is 138,083, accounting for 83.01% of the total population. In 2008, it was approved by the State Council as the fourth batch of famous historical and cultural cities.
In 2017, it was awarded the title of "National Garden City". It is the first national pilot demonstration zone for sustainable agricultural development. On September 26, 2018, it was awarded the title of "China Natural Oxygen Bar" in 2018. 2019, the gross regional product of Turks County is 343,695,000 yuan, the added value of primary industry is 113,296,000 yuan, the added value of secondary industry is 299,999,000 yuan, the general public budget revenue is 200,000,000 yuan, and the general public budget expenditure is 136,901,000 yuan. On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
