In arguably one of the most talented receiving draft classes in NFL history, LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase, Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle, and Alabama’s Devonta Smith overshadow the most pro-ready and well-rounded wide receiver prospect available. While Ja’Marr Chase specializes in contested catches, Jaylen Waddle specializes in being a deep-threat, and Devonta Smith specializes at crisp route-running, Rashod Bateman specializes in all the above. Teams like the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, and Green Bay Packers that are in range of drafting Bateman wouldn’t be drafting a player with great ball skills, or a player with deep threat abilities, or a player with precision route running. They would be drafting a player with all of those skills all in one place.

With a similar playstyle and talent level as players like Minnesota Vikings’ Adam Thielen, Chicago Bears’ Allen Robinson, New Orleans Saints’ Michael Thomas, and Green Bay Packers’ Davante Adams, Rashod Bateman is a Day 1 contributor due to his versatile skill set, flexible pre-snap alignments, and combination of size and speed. In 5 years, when people look back on the draft class of 2021, the biggest question will be why a consistent pro bowl superstar receiver that is cemented in the top 10 wide receiver conversation named Rashod Bateman fell so far in the draft.
