Dr. Jaykumar Jayaraman reveals the creation of a system used to accurately estimate the age of children through the study of developing teeth. By walking us through the shocking statistics of how many children do not know their date of birth, Dr. Jay leaves us with an intense feeling of connection to our date of birth. He also shows us the joy that has been bestowed upon children around the world who are now able to celebrate their birthday because of this groundbreaking research Dr. Jayaraman is a Pediatric Dentist, Scientist, and social entrepreneur. In addition to his primary clinical expertise in pediatric oral surgery, his research interests are in human biology, anthropology, and forensic dentistry, particularly on age estimation from teeth. Considering inadequacies in birth registration practices, in 2013, he started Date of Birth Foundation, the world’s first charity to promote accurate birth records that has established collaboration in different countries. Dr. Jayaraman is currently Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the VCU School of Dentistry, Richmond, Virginia.
