Zimbabweans must ask themselves what will all this violence solve? Is this the Zimbabwe they want? Is the 31 March uprising about violence? Do they really want to be part of this culture of violence?

The war of independence ended in 1980 and yet the nation has been continuous at war in one form or other ever since starting with the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre, we have never ever held free, fair, peaceful and credible elections with the 2008 elections being the worst, the seizure of the white own farms was accompanied by gratuitous violence and election fever added fuel to the fire and the 2017 military coup was the culmination of the Zanu PF factional war over power. Before the 2017 coup dust had even settled the Lacoste faction divided into the two factions whose infighting has paralysed the whole country and may well lead into bloody street protests or worse!

The people of Zimbabwe must come out and condemn the Zanu PF culture of violence which has often targeted the ordinary people themselves directly or indirectly. As long as violence is allow to continue then those with means to impose violence will remain the masters and the rest must do as they are told.

Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because the de facto one-party Zanu PF dictatorship has failed. We must acknowledge the system failure and must have the courage to dismantle it.

The mass support of the 2017 military coup was a big mistake because it gave legitimacy to the Zanu PF dictatorship or be it by support one faction over the other. We must NOT repeat the same mistake by siding with one faction is the ongoing Zanu PF factional war.
