How Laser Peening Works

How Laser Peening Works combines animation and live shots of the Procudo® Laser Peening System by LSP Technologies in order to illustrate how laser peening protects metal surfaces from cracking and corrosion.
In laser peening, precisely controlled laser pulses create a small plasma explosion between the part and a smooth water overlay, which points pressure deep into the part. Video animation of what goes on below the metal surface shows how that plasma pressure expands the volume of the affected metal, producing the benefits of compressive residual stress.
